Police hold Uvinza resident for kidnaping Std II pupil

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Police in Tanzania are holding an 18-year-old suspect, Stanley Ulaya, a resident of Nguruka Ward in Uvinza District, Kigoma Region, for accusing him of kidnaping a Standard II pupil from Mbezi Primary School in Mbezi, Dar es Salaam.

According to a statement released by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Jumanne Muliro, the incident occurred on March 6, 2025, outside the school gate. The suspect allegedly abducted the child and took him to Bagamoyo in the Coast Region, where he hid him in a bush while demanding ransom from the child’s parent through threats.

Following an in-depth investigation, the police successfully apprehended the suspect and took him to the Oysterbay Police Station. However, while in custody, he attempted to escape, forcing officers to shoot him in the leg and thigh to restrain him. His condition is currently critical, and he is receiving medical treatment.

On the other hand, the child is in good health, and doctors are conducting further examinations to ensure his well-being.

The police have strongly condemned child abductions and kidnappings, emphasizing that they will take strict action against anyone involved in such crimes.

Additionally, authorities have urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and ensure their children’s safety, especially when traveling to and from school.

The police have reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing the law strictly, ensuring that criminals face justice and that public safety is upheld.
