Absa Bank women donate to Muhimbili premature unit

DAR ES SALAAM: Premature babies at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) have received a boost following a donation of medical equipment and essential supplies from female employees of Absa Bank Tanzania.

The contribution aims to enhance neonatal care and improve survival rates for infants born with health challenges.

Receiving the donation, the Head of the Neonatal Unit at MNH, Dr. Martha Mkony, expressed gratitude to the bank employees, who made the visit as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.

She emphasized that the donation had come at a crucial time and would significantly aid newborns receiving treatment at the hospital.

“I sincerely thank the female employees of Absa Bank, particularly the ‘Red Skirts’ group, for this noble gesture.

We see this as the beginning of a long-term relationship between our Neonatal Unit and Absa Bank. We look forward to continued collaboration in ensuring the well-being of these newborns,” said Dr. Mkony.

Handing over the donation, Absa Bank Tanzania’s Human Resources Manager, Ms. Martha Chacha, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting women and addressing health challenges affecting them and their children.

She noted that, through their ‘Red Skirts’ initiative, Absa Bank Tanzania’s female employees had also extended support to fistula patients at CCBRT Hospital.

“On behalf of my fellow women, as we commemorate International Women’s Day, we are here today representing our bank to offer this support. Absa Bank deeply values the stories of Tanzanian women—their health and economic success stories matter greatly to us,” said Ms. Chacha.

The ‘Red Skirts’ initiative, launched in March 2020 in Dar es Salaam, was established to inspire, empower, and develop female leaders within Absa Bank.
