Home Affairs insists NIDA card be ready in 14 days

BUKOBA: THE Minister of Home Affairs, Innocent Bashungwa, has announced that the government’s strategy is to ensure Tanzanians receive their National Identification Card within 14 days after completing registration with the National Identification Authority (NIDA).

He made these remarks during the 25th anniversary celebration of Kolping Hotel in Bukoba, Kagera, where he took the opportunity to explain the government’s plans to improve NIDA’s service delivery to citizens.

“The current strategy ensures that once a citizen registers, they will receive their NIDA number (NIN) within seven days via the phone number provided on the registration form. After 14 days, they will receive another message notifying them to collect their National ID from NIDA offices,” Bashungwa emphasized.

Bashungwa has instructed NIDA officials at district and regional levels to educate citizens about this new service delivery plan, which aims to eliminate the complaints that have been raised regarding registration, ID production, and distribution.

Additionally, he directed NIDA and the Immigration Department to work together in every district office to ensure that registration and identification services are provided efficiently without inconvenience to citizens.

He urged citizens facing challenges in obtaining their NIN or National ID to take advantage of NIDA and the Immigration Department’s verification and registration exercises in their areas to access these services and resolve any issues.

In Kagera Region, Bashungwa instructed the NIDA Registrar to set up registration camps in all districts to register citizens who have reached the age of 18. This exercise will begin on March 10, 2025, in Kyerwa District.

Bashungwa expressed his gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating funds to register 269,177 citizens in Kagera Region who have turned 18 but previously missed the opportunity to register.
