TMA issues alerts over strong winds, huge ocean waves in coastal regions

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a warning about strong winds and large waves along the northern coast of the Indian Ocean.

The warning includes the regions of Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Coast Region, and the Mafia Island, Unguja, and Pemba. TMA cautions that winds could reach speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour, and waves could reach heights of up to two meters.

For almost a week now, TMA has been issuing alerts regarding this weather condition, indicating that the potential impacts are expected to be moderate. This condition will persist for three days, from February 25 to February 27, 2025, affecting areas along the northern coast of the Indian Ocean.

TMA’s statement explains that strong winds and large waves could cause disruptions to maritime transport and fishing activities. Therefore, residents in the affected areas are urged to take the necessary precautions to avoid any harm.

For the regions, on February 25, 2025, the warning includes Lindi, Mtwara, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, and Coast Region. Additionally, for February 26 and 27, other areas along the northern coast of the Indian Ocean, including the islands of Mafia, Unguja, and Pemba, have also been added to the warning.

The authorities advise the public to continue monitoring weather updates and follow the guidance provided by TMA to avoid any dangers associated with the expected adverse weather conditions.
