Journalists to receive digital press cards this year

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Mr Gerson Msigwa, has said that starting this year, journalists in Tanzania will be issued digital press cards as part of a government initiative aimed at improving the media industry.

During a session with the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Mr Msigwa, confirmed that the Media Council’s Accreditation Board will be launched on March 3, this year.

“The Board is already in place and will begin issuing digital press cards upon its launch.

Journalists can apply by entering their details into the system and once their identity is verified, they will receive their cards.” Mr Msigwa noted.

He further added that the required machinery has been procured, and the system is ready for nationwide use, including in remote areas such as rural regions.

The digital press cards will feature a QR code, allowing journalists to be easily identified anywhere, even internationally
