Decongest Dr Samia Dodoma’s SGR station, TRC tasked

DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Rosemary Senyamule has directed Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) to install additional parking payment machines to ease traffic congestion during passenger arrivals.

The RC issued the directive on Monday during her visit to Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan SGR Station, located at Mkonze on the outskirts of the city, to inspect the services offered at the facility and address the challenges passengers face upon their arrival.

It was recently reported that passengers arriving in Dodoma via the SGR train were experiencing long queues due to the limited number of scanning machines at the exit gate.

To resolve the issue, the RC instructed the station management to add more machines and to separate motorcycle and vehicle exit gates to improve efficiency at the station.

“We have received complaints from passengers regarding this challenge, which is caused by the limited number of scanning machines during exit time,” she said.

Ms Senyamule directed the management to resolve the issue immediately to ensure passengers can access the facility comfortably.

“I want an implementation report on this issue. Contact TRC headquarters in Dar es Salaam to see how you can address this challenge within a month. People have chosen this mode of transport (SGR trains) to save time, only to end up stranded here,” she stated.

RC Senyamule also noted that she had personally experienced the challenge, having spent over 40 minutes before the last vehicle was allowed to pass.

Reports indicate that as of January this year, a total of 1.5 million passengers had travelled using SGR trains.
