Mkuranga gets 6bn/- to improve road infrastructure

DODOMA: THE government has allocated a total of 6bn/- to improve road infrastructure in Mkuranga District, Coast Region.

Minister for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega, who is also Member of Parliament for Mkuranga, revealed this during a public meeting at Shungubweni Village.

He was on a two-day tour of the Shungubweni Ward. Mr Ulega said that construction work is already underway on several roads, including the MwanambayaKongowe road, Mwanambaya-Mipeko road and the Vikindu Police-Mwembemtengu Road.

Other ongoing projects include the MbandeTambani-Kitonga road, Kiparang’anda-Bupu road and Mwarusembe-Njia Nne road.

He said that Shungubweni Ward would receive 1bn/- of the allocated funds for maintenance of the MbeziShungubweni road, which has long posed transportation challenges for residents.

“By improving these roads, we are opening up opportunities in the tourism sector, particularly through the district’s ocean beaches and islands. This will attract investors and at the same time, create income-generating opportunities for residents from the resources available in our area,” he explained.

Mkuranga District boasts several tourist attractions, including beautiful beaches like Kuruti, Boza and Palacha, known for their natural beauty.

It also features two islands, Kwale, which is rich in historical sites and Koma, which is popular for fishing activities.
