CCM to mark 48th anniversary in style

DODOMA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) will tomorrow celebrate its 48th anniversary with a special event that will introduce its presidential flag bearers to party members.

Recently, the party’s Extraordinary Meeting in Dodoma unanimously endorsed President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and Dr Hussein Mwinyi as its presidential candidates for the Union Government and Zanzibar respectively, in the upcoming October General Election.

The meeting also endorsed Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi as Dr Samia’s running mate. The resolution to endorse President Samia and Dr Mwinyi was backed by over 1,900 members who attended the Extraordinary Meeting in the capital city.

“These celebrations are for party members and supporters. Therefore, we will introduce our flag bearers to CCM members. When the right time comes, we will introduce them to the public,” stated CPA Amos Makalla, CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training. Mr Makalla emphasised that CCM remains a strong party as it marks its 48th anniversary, boasting a total of 12 million members.

He confirmed that all preparations are in place for the grand celebrations, which are set to take place tomorrow at Dodoma’s Jamhuri Stadium.

CCM was founded in 1977 following the merger of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) and the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP), starting with a total of 500,000 active members.

The party’s National Chairperson, President Samia, is expected to be the chief guest at the event. “This is a party that has formed the government and has successfully implemented its manifesto.

Various projects under both governments have been significantly executed.

The party is celebrating 48 years of great achievements, including a landslide victory in the recent local government elections, where we secured 98 per cent of the votes,” he added.

He further stated that while the party has many accomplishments to celebrate, peace and stability remain its greatest achievement.

“Despite the presence of multiple political parties, our country continues to be guided by the President’s 4Rs philosophy in politics. While we may have ideological differences, the nation remains safe,” he emphasised.

CPA Makalla assured that preparations for the celebrations are progressing smoothly and urged the public, supporters and CCM members to turn out in large numbers.

“These are CCM celebrations, not a special meeting that requires an invitation card. The gates will be open from 6:00 AM on February 5.”

He also commended regional, district and ward leaders for successfully organising commemorations in their respective areas.

“We have witnessed each region holding these celebrations, with events reaching down to the ward level, as directed by the National Executive Council,” he said.
