PCCB in Kilimanjaro uncovers 63 clients without water metres

KILIMANJARO: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Kilimanjaro Region has identified water users who have been accessing the service without water metres thus, leading to government revenue losses in Siha District.

Kilimanjaro Regional PCCB Head, Mr Musa Chaulo, disclosed this on Thursday while presenting the institution’s performance report for the period between October and December 2024.

“The institution received reports of fraud and upon investigation, it was discovered that some users received water services without making payments due to the absence of water metres. Additionally, others had water metres but were not included in the billing system,” he said.

“This work was carried out in parallel with the investigation of the water service delivery system where it was found that 63 customers were receiving water services without being included in the water bill payment system,” he said.

Mr Chaulo further said that the PCCB conducted an operation that resulted in the inclusion of water users in the payment system.

As of December 23, 2024, customers had paid a total of 3.6m/- into the account of the Magadini Mwakiwaru-Siha Water Board.

He added that the workers responsible for the irregularities have been suspended pending further investigation. “This success is a result of the enabled them to cooperate with the institution,” said Mr Chaulo.
