Samia mourns fallen Mbozi DC

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday extended her heartfelt condolences to the Songwe Regional Commissioner as well as to the family and friends, following the passing of Mbozi District Commissioner, Ester Mahawe.

In a post shared on her Instagram account, Dr Samia expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the late District Commissioner.

“I am deeply saddened to receive the news of the passing of Mbozi District Commissioner, Esther Alexander Mahawe, who passed away today (yesterday), January 14, 2025, at KCMC Hospital in Kilimanjaro Region,” she said.

She added: “I extend my condolences to the family of the deceased, Songwe Regional Commissioner, relatives, friends and all those affected by this loss. May God grant her soul eternal peace.”

President Samia described Ms Mahawe as a hardworking, courageous, honest and steadfast leader in her service.

“We thank God for the life of Esther and her dedicated service to the public, characterised by diligence, truthfulness and a strong sense of duty,” she said.

Earlier, through a statement, the Minister for State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government Mr Mohamed Mchengerwa extended condolences to the family, Songwe Regional Commissioner, government officials and Mbozi District people.

The statement also noted that the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, in collaboration with the family was coordinating funeral arrangements, with further updates to follow. The fallen DC was a politician and a member of CCM.

She served as a Member of Parliament for Women’s Special Seats from 2015 to 2020.

In 2021, she was appointed the District Commissioner for Kigoma. She was later transferred to Mbozi District in 2023.
