President Samia picks Asha Dachi as new TSN Boss

IOWA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Ms Asha Dachi as new Managing Director of the Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN).

Prior to her appointment, Ms Dachi was the Acting Managing Director of TSN– publishers of Daily News, Sunday News, HabariLeo, HabariLeo Jumapili and Spoti Leo newspapers.The company also has online platforms- Daily News Digital.

Prior to that, Ms Dachi was the Director of Radio Services at the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).

A statement released by the Directorate of Presidential Communications citing details from the Chief Secretary Ambassador Moses Kusiluka said the Head of State has also made eight appointments aiming at bolstering leadership across various sectors.

The statement said, the president has appointed Dr Leonard Akwilapo as the Chairman of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

Dr Akwilapo is a retired Permanent Secretary. He takes over from Professor Penina Mlama, whose term has ended.

In another significant appointment, Professor Zacharia Mganilwa has been named as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Adult Education.

Prof Mganilwa is a Senior Lecturer at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and replaces Dr Naomi Katunzi, whose term has ended.

Dr Mwamini Madhebehi Tulli has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Arusha Institute of Accountancy (IAA), Dr Tulli has been appointed for a second term.

Moreover, the Head of State has appointed Engineer Dr Richard Masika as the Chairman of the Board of the National Irrigation Commission. Eng Dr Masika takes over from Prof Henry Mahoo, whose term has ended.

Likewise, Ambassador Salome Thaddaus Sijaona has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Governing Council of Ardhi University (ARU). Amb Sijaona has been appointed for the second term.

Moreover, Professor Joseph Nicolao Otieno has been appointed as the Chairman of the Council for Natural and Alternative Medicine.

Prof Otieno is a Senior Lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and takes over from Prof Hamisi Malebo, whose term has ended.

Furthermore, President Samia has named Ms Janet Reuben Lekashingo as the Chairperson of the Mining Commission. Previous Ms Lekashingo was a Commissioner of the Mining Commission and takes over from Prof Idris Kikula, whose term has ended.

Ms Mariam Salehe Mgaya has been appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Extractive Industries Transparency and Accountability Initiative (TEITI). Prior to the appointment, Ms Mgaya was acting the position.
