Tanzania’s top golfers head to 2024 AACT

DAR ES SALAAM: THREE of Tanzania’s top female golfers—Neema Olomi, Hawa Wanyeche and Madina Iddi—have been chosen to represent the country at the 2024 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
The prestigious biannual tournament will be held from November 25th to 30th at the Taghazout Golf Club in Agadir, Morocco.
Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) President Queen Siraki made the announcement yesterday, revealing the familiar names of the players who will form the national team for the event.
“We would like to inform that after a thorough review and consideration, the following players; Neema Olomi, Hawa Wanyeche and Madina Iddi have been selected to represent Tanzania in the All Africa Challenge Trophy in Morocco this November. We wish them all the best in their preparations,” she said.
The three players were part of the team that clinched the East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy in Kigali, Rwanda last year as the build up for the AACT, hope is high depending on the preparation.
Siraki also invited people to support the team during this exciting trip and encouraged golf enthusiasts to participate in a supporters’ tournament.
She added that the entire TLGU team, along with executives from the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), are also expected to travel to Morocco to ensure the team’s participation is impactful.
The trip to Morocco for top officials is also part of an effort to strengthen the relationship between Tanzania and Morocco, following a recent meeting between the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Tanzania, Zakaria El Goumiri and officials from both TGU and TLGU.

In the 2022 AACT, held at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC), the Tanzanian ladies’ team finished third overall.
The powerful South African team successfully defended its title, while Tanzania’s team—led by national team captain Wanyeche—played exceptionally well.
Wanyeche, along with her teammates Iddi and Angel Eaton (who joined the paid ranks last year), worked hard throughout the three-day, 54-hole event to finish third with an aggregate score of 455 (148, 153, 154).
There were 11 shots behind champions South Africa (444) and six shots behind runners-up Morocco (449).
With the 2024 AACT set to take place in Morocco, the Tanzanian team will be aiming to improve on their previous performance in what promises to be a highly competitive event.
