Mashujaa taste top league spot

KIGOMA: MASHUJAA and Tanzania Prisons played to a goalless draw in their Mainland Premier League fixture at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma yesterday.

Despite the stalemate, Mashujaa temporarily seized the top spot in the league standings.

Mashujaa now lead the table with four points from their first two games, following their 1-0 victory over Dodoma Jiji in their opening match.

Tanzania Prisons, meanwhile, sit in fourth place with two points from two matches, having previously drawn 0-0 against Pamba.

The match saw both teams aggressively pursuing victory, with Mashujaa leveraging their home advantage in the first half.

After the break, Tanzania Prisons intensified their efforts to take the lead, but Mashujaa’s resilient defence managed to keep them at bay.

Both sides had opportunities to score but strong defensive performances from both teams ensured the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

In other league action, Kagera Sugar faced Singida Stars in a late match at Katiba Stadium.

Teams like Yanga, Azam, Coastal Union, JKT Tanzania, KMC, Foundation Gate and Dodoma Jiji are yet to play due to their involvement in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The Mainland Premier League continues today with two matches: Simba will host Fountain Gate at their home ground, while Namungo Sports will welcome Tabora United at Majaliwa Stadium.
