Simba claims third place in Community Shield

DAR ES SALAAM: Simba clinched third place in the recently concluded Community Shield tournament with a narrow 1-0 victory over Coastal Union at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam today.
The decisive goal came from Salehe Karabaka in the 11th minute, ensuring Simba’s place on the podium.
Karabaka’s goal resulted from a well-executed set piece by Steven Mukwala. As Mukwala delivered the ball, Karabaka capitalized on a lapse in Coastal Union’s defensive marking to find space and score past goalkeeper Chuma Ramadhani. The finish was a testament to Karabaka’s positioning and precision.
Before halftime, Mukwala had a chance to extend Simba’s lead, but his effort was thwarted by Ramadhani’s agile save.
Coastal Union also had a notable opportunity when Jackson Shiga headed a cross from John Mkwata, but the attempt was comfortably saved by Simba’s goalkeeper, Moussa Camara.
The second half saw a more spirited performance from Coastal Union, especially following Simba midfielder Fabrice Ngoma’s dismissal. Ngoma was shown a red card after receiving two yellow cards, which gave Coastal Union renewed energy and a numerical advantage.
Despite the increased pressure, Simba’s defense, led by Camara, held firm. Coastal Union nearly equalized in the 78th minute when Cosmas Lucas seized an opportunity after intercepting the ball from Nouma.
However, Camara’s quick reflexes and impressive save with his legs prevented the goal, preserving Simba’s slim lead.
Simba’s victory secures their position as the tournament’s third-place team, capping off a hard-fought match and showcasing their resilience and tactical prowess.
