SADC Chairman calls for peace in bloc

After Zambia, Tanzania is expected to chair the Emergency Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Political, Defense and Security Organization of SADC
Recently meeting in Zambia on Friday, Chairman of the Emergency Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Political, Defense and Security Organization of SADC, Mulambo Haimbe, who is also the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, has urged the bloc member countries to ensure that peace, unity and stability are found within the region.
The Chairman stated that it was the onus of the bloc to search for local solutions to various conflicts, especially by using their own ways and means.
“All Member States are encouraged to further strengthen solidarity and contribute resources toward destroying rebel groups, which threaten peace in the SADC region… without peace and security in the region, citizens should not expect to achieve true harmony and development,” he pointed out.
One the activities that was conducted in the meeting was receiving a report on the implementation of peacekeeping forces in Cabo Delgado in Mozambique and the ongoing process of deploying peacekeeping forces to the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Leaders representing Tanzania in the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba and Minister for Defense and National Service, Dr Stergomena Tax.
