Singida FG fight for PL top-four finish

SINGIDA: SINGIDA Fountain Gate Head Coach, Thabo Senong  said their utmost goal in the ongoing Premier League is to finish among the top four teams.

Speaking in an exclusive interview yesterday at CCM Kirumba Stadium, Senong said the quality of his team gives him hope of achieving their goal of finishing the league season in the top four positions.

He said that their strategy is to ensure they win all their remaining matches of the second round to achieve their team’s desired goal.

“I’m not talking about becoming the champions because there is a huge points gap between us and other teams above us, that is why we will battle to make sure that we finish our league campaign in the top four positions,” he said.

The South African tactician unveiled that they have utilised their three days of training to strengthen the squad, including fixing some of the shortcomings they had witnessed in their previous matches, including the two consecutive defeats against Tanzania Prisons and Kagera Sugar.

Singida FG lost 3-1 against Tanzania Prisons FC at CCM Sokoine Memorial Stadium in Mbeya as well as losing 1-0 against Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera.

However, he said despite the existing competition in the league, with the quality of the team he has, he does not see any reason not to claim the top-four position at the end of the season because even players hold the same ambition.

Singida FG is currently placed sixth after gathering 20 points from 16 outings. They have won five, drawn five, and lost six matches and have scored 18 goals and conceded 20.

The team expects to play its first game at the CCM Kirumba Stadium on February 28 against Azam FC and thereafter they will face Mtibwa Sugar on March 2 at the same venue which is currently their home ground.

On April 28, the team will play against Mashujaa FC before a faceoff with Dodoma Jiji FC on May 7 in the ongoing premier league games
