TADB equips women in financial management

A GROUP of 45 women engaging in horticulture from Dar es Salaam-based Women of Hope Alive has benefited from financial literacy and loan management programme sponsored and facilitated by the state-owned Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB).

The TADB Senior Business Development Officer Ms Angelina Nyansambo said at the training over the weekend that the programme is part of the bank’s support in strengthening and empowering women who make 50 per cent of the total labour force in agriculture.

“Women are at the heart of Tanzania’s agricultural transformation strategy,” she said.

The country’s new agricultural transformation strategy, known as Agenda 10/30, aims to increase the sectors’ growth to 10 per cent per year by 2030.

Women of Hope Alive Chairperson – Discipline and Constitution Ms Ummy Mmary expressed her appreciation to the bank for sponsoring and facilitating the training saying that women’s contribution to agriculture can be scaled up if they are empowered.

“The impact can as well be extended to increased household income, improved livelihood and greater economic empowerment at the village, district, regional and national levels,” she said.

The training discussed topics including an introduction to basic financial concepts, including budgeting, saving and investing. Participants were engaged through informative presentations, interactive discussions and group activities.

The women were also given practical tips on how to assess financial services and equipped with knowledge and skills to manage their personal finances effectively, make informed financial decisions and support the growth of their agribusinesses.

From September last year, TADB has provided such awareness and financial literacy training programmes in nine regions and reached 950 farmers so far.
