Why office equipment matters in reducing carbon emission

TANZANIANS have been advised to use environmentally friendly office equipment to reduce carbon emissions in return mitigating climate change impact.

Most office equipment, especially printers, projectors and photocopy machines emit heat while their electricity usage is high, hence reducing greenhouse gases.

Epson’s Regional Sales Director—Africa and Israel, Mr Evgeniy Dzhaksimov said some office equipment are the sources of carbon emission that harm the environment and business and learning institutions should use user-friendly equipment.

“EcoTank pigment ink technology delivers sharp text while cut heat emission by over 80 per cent,” Mr Dzhaksimov said yesterday during launching of the first East Africa Service Centre in Dar es Salaam.

He said it adds huge value to the range of multi-function inkjet printers, which are known as fast and efficient, and support sustainability goals as inkjets use up to 90 per cent less energy than lasers.

The opening of the first experience and service centre is a significant milestone for Epson in Africa and will enable Epson to provide customers with products and services under one roof.

Epson Tech Sales Generalist Local—East Africa, Mr Charles Muhuko, said during the opening that the combination of their heat-free inkjet printing technology with powerful advanced workflow capabilities will help customers match unrivalled sustainability gains with increased productivity.

“This offers Epson partners a competitive sales advantage, because our printers are not only environmentally friendly but also user friendly and need fewer services compared to others,” Mr Muhuko said when showing around new products to visitors who flocked the service centre.

According to ezeep.com, committed to carbon-neutral printing, energy consumption during the printing process also plays a role. This is almost negligible for an inkjet printer, which only needs 15 watts to print. Using a laser printer, during the warm-up phase requires 1300 watts.

A representative of Mkwanja Trading Company that deals with office equipment, said the initial price of the printers are slightly higher than others, but the operation and maintenance costs of inkjet printers are minimal.

“One gets more ink life using Epson than others. While the service comes after two years,” he said.
