TZ Ladies downsize UAE in Victoria T20 Series
GALLANT Tanzanian Ladies began the Victoria Series 2023 with a high tone after securing a seven-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Uganda on Wednesday.
UAE won the toss and elected to bat. They played well in their 20 overs and bagged 138 runs.
Tanzania stepped in the second inning to bat and chased the score in seventeen overs with 140 runs.
Apart from their big win, they witnessed an outstanding performance from Saum Mtae, who grabbed a Player of the Match award after scoring 40 runs from 33 balls she played.
Other Tanzanian key stars with the massive win included the team’s skipper Fatuma Kibasu who scored 36 runs from 31 balls; Hudaa Mrisho who scored 27 runs from 24 balls and Neema Pius, who earned 20 runs from 15 balls.
Besides Tanzania winning and their stars shining in the big game, they also saw a few UAE players displaying quality in their performance and contributing to their scores.
Kavishe Kumari, Chaya Mughal and Kushi Sharma were among the brilliant players from UAE.
Kumari scored 44 runs from 43 balls, Mughal scored 30 runs from 28 balls while Sharma bagged 22 runs from 12 balls.
It was the first loss to UAE yesterday after the team defeated Kenya in the T20 tournament opening by 15 runs.
On the same opening day, Uganda faced Rwanda in the afternoon. The hosts Uganda, i destroyed Rwanda by seven wickets.
All games are set on Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Uganda.
After their opener, the Tanzanian ladies will face Kenya this morning before playing hosts Uganda on Friday and completing with Rwanda on Saturday.
The competition finals are set to take action on Sunday.
Before the competition, the national team picked players from the best performers in the Women’s regional leagues.
The team had pitched a one-month camp at the University of Dar es Salaam ground with 22 players fighting for the spot in the 14 girls’ squad.
The Tanzanian ladies are under the supervision of their head coach Nasibu Kelvin, assistant coach Riziki Kiseto and the team manager Saida Hamisi.
The players engaged in a mission are; skipper Fatuma Kibasu, Mwapwani Mohamed, Neema Justine, Shufaa Mohamed, Monica Pascal, Josephine Shirima, Agnes Qwele and Saum Mtoe. Other squad members include Sonia Chachala, Sophia Frank, Hudaa Mrisho, Aisha Mohamed, Mwanaidi Ammy and Perice Kamunya.
