Z’bar minister urges TPC to invest in human resources

ZANZIBAR Minister for Infrastructure, Communication and Transport Dr Khalid Salum Mohamed has challenged the Tanzania Postal Corporation (TPC) to invest in human resources especially in capacity building for its executives as the corporation eyes digital transformation.

The minister made the call  yesterday when he visited TTCL headquarters office in Dar es Salaam, stressing that it is high time  the corporation massively invested  in human resources, through learning various issues which are compatible with the digital systems in order to compete in the market.

“When we shift to transformation, let’s not forget to build capacity for our executives…  we should not see building capacity for them as useless aspect, instead we should  see it as an investment that is currently in great need, especially at this time when the TPC inked an agreement with the Oman Post Office in e-commerce,” the minister stressed.

He added that the ally (Oman) with whom we entered into agreement has made great strides in terms of infrastructure and technology, adding that the corporation must have sufficient capacity to engage in the activities.

In a related development, the minister directed the TPC to intensify its efforts in promoting various services provided by the corporation to the community to ensure that wananchi are aware of its products and services such as e-shop.

“You have the task to perform, especially in creating public awareness to ensure people across the country both in Mainland and Zanzibar understand and use TPC services and products,” the minister said.

Earlier, Post Master General Mr Macrice Mbodo said TPC has a total of 686 employees including 45 in Zanzibar, adding that it has connected to the postal network more than 365 offices including six in Zanzibar.

“TPC has also connected to its network (postal network) more than 670,000 offices outside the country. These are those that are under the Universal Postal Union,” Mr Mbodo said.

Mr Mbodo further added that TPC continues to provide employment opportunities to Tanzanians in all regional offices.

“In this financial year, the corporation plans to recruit 35 employees, 21 per cent of whom will be from Zanzibar,” he said.
