Nine regions to benefit from 271bn/- education project

NINE regions are set to benefit from a six-year project (2021-2027) dubbed ‘Shule Bora’, Quality Learning for All Children.
The project is funded by UK Aid at the cost of 271bn/-.
The beneficiary regions are Kigoma, Katavi, Rukwa, Mara, Simiyu, Singida, Dodoma, Tanga and Coast Region.
Shule Bora Project Coordinator, Mr Raymond Kanyambo revealed that recently during a one-day meeting, which was opened by the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Mr Rashid Mchata and attended by regional based media managers, editors and journalists.
Elaborating Mr Kanyambo said the beneficiary regions comprise 67 councils with a total of 5,757 primary schools with 54,000 pupils.
“It is anticipated that Shule Bora project will deliver improved quality, inclusiveness and safety of learning for boys and girls” he emphasised.
On his part, Rukwa Regional Education Officer (REO), Mr Samson Hango informed participants that 24,000 pupils could not read, write or count.
“These 24,000 pupils are among the 374,000 pupils who were enrolled and attended classes from pre Standard One to standard seven but could not master reading, writing and counting” REO explained.
The latest statistics show that the pass rate in Rukwa region has dropped from 80.15 per cent in 2021 to 77.9 per cent in 2022.
Equally, Mr Hango urged teachers to increase efficiency in teaching to reflect the improved school infrastructures.
