Tanzania moves to expand regional business opportunities

Kigali, RWANDA: TANZANIA is seeking to strengthen trade relations with East African Community (EAC) member states to expand market access, attract investment and create more opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations), Zuhura Yunus, made the call on November 5, 2026, while representing Tanzania at the 26th International Trade Fair in Kigali, Rwanda.

She said regional integration was essential to expanding business opportunities and improving the competitiveness of Tanzanian enterprises in domestic and international markets.

Yunus urged entrepreneurs to embrace technology, improve product quality, adopt innovative solutions and strengthen marketing strategies to attract customers and compete effectively.

She also encouraged Tanzanian traders to use regional exhibitions to learn from businesses in other EAC member states, exchange ideas and establish partnerships that could open new markets and address their business needs.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner for Trade and Business Development, Alana Nchimbi, said Tanzania’s participation in the exhibition reflected government efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

She said the initiative aimed to connect SMEs to markets, expand their access to business opportunities and capital, and strengthen their contribution to national economic growth.
