Tanzania bolsters promotion of its rich tourist attractions through 2027 AFCON
DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has begun implementing a strategy to promote Tanzania’s tourism attractions through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), including the introduction of a digital platform, Destination Tanzania, that will allow visitors to book and purchase tourism services.
The initiative aims to attract more visitors to the country and increase revenue from the tourism sector.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hamad Hassan Chande announced the plans in Parliament in Dodoma on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during the question-and-answer session. He was responding to a question from Special Seats Member of Parliament Shadya Omari, who sought to know how the government planned to collaborate with other African countries and major media outlets to use AFCON 2027 to promote Tanzania as a tourist destination and boost revenue.
Chande said the Destination Tanzania platform, accessible through destinationtanzania.tz, would enable visitors to book and purchase tourism services, including trips to various attractions during the tournament.

He added that the strategy would also leverage advertising rights held by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), as well as Tanzania’s role as a host of AFCON 2027, to promote the country internationally.
Chande said the government recognised the importance of the regional tourism market in increasing visitor numbers and revenue. As part of the strategy, it plans to organise special events involving football fans, major media organisations and promotional activities highlighting tourism, cultural heritage and entertainment.
The initiatives are expected to raise Tanzania’s international profile and attract more visitors during the tournament.
