Airtel opens flagship shop in Dar, pays government 65.48bn/- in dividends

DAR ES SALAAM: AIRTEL Tanzania has paid the government 65.48bn/- in dividends this year, bringing its cumulative payments to about 350bn/- since 2019, as the company opened a flagship shop at its head office in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila inaugurated the modern facility, which brings internet connectivity, Airtel Money, home and business fibre, enterprise solutions, SIM registration and customer support services under one roof.

Seaking at the inauguration, the RC commended Airtel’s investment in 4G and 5G connectivity but urged the company to improve network speed, reliability, and customer service to meet growing demand in the city.

“Reliable connectivity is not a luxury for Dar es Salaam; it is an essential tool for business and economic growth,” he said, calling on the company to continue investing in digital infrastructure.

Additionally, Mr Chalamila also highlighted Airtel’s contribution to the national economy through its partnership with the government, which holds a 49 per cent stake in the company.

Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Charles Kamoto said the flagship shop reflects the company’s commitment to expanding access to quality services while creating opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and digital inclusion.

He said the company has established more than 95 shops nationwide, supported by Airtel Money branches and thousands of agents, to extend its services to customers across the country.

Airtel Tanzania Director of Customer Service Adriana Lyamba said the new facility combines digital technology with environmentally conscious design to improve service delivery and make the company’s products more accessible.

She described the outlet as a flagship digital store designed to provide customers with a modern service experience while promoting environmental sustainability and efficient use of technology.

“Airtel continues to invest in people, technology and infrastructure to respond to changing customer expectations,”she stated.
