Parliament commends TIE’s investment in technological education

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sports has commended the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) for its significant investment in education technology aimed at facilitating teaching and learning for teachers and students across the country.

The commendation was made on Thursday, October 8, 2026, by the committee’s Chairperson, Husna Sekiboko, who led members of the committee on a working visit to TIE headquarters in Dar es Salaam to assess the institution’s ongoing activities and operations.

“We commend you for the significant progress you have made in developing various systems that facilitate teaching and learning in the implementation of the improved curriculum introduced in 2024,” Sekiboko said.

She said that ahead of the upcoming parliamentary sessions, the committee would advise the government to engage telecommunications companies to explore ways of reducing data costs for accessing various education systems, enabling students and teachers across the country to use the platforms without financial barriers.

For his part, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, thanked the committee for its recommendations on improving education in the country.

He said the ministry would act on the issues raised by the committee and work to address them promptly, in line with the recommendations provided.

Meanwhile, TIE Director General Dr Aneth Komba presented a report on the implementation of development projects, the institution’s achievements and its current needs.

She also outlined various activities undertaken by the institute and explained how TIE has increasingly focused on the use of technology to support teaching and learning across the country.
