Yas deepens support for Zanzibar’s digital economy

ZANZIBAR: Yas Tanzania has strengthened its support for Zanzibar’s digital transformation after receiving recognition for its contribution to the island’s technology and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

The recognition came during the closing of the Tech & AI Expo Zanzibar 2026, where Zanzibar’s Minister for Communication, Information Technology and Innovation, Mudrick Ramadhan Soraga, presented a certificate of appreciation to Yas Business Chief Officer Norman Kiondo.

Yas Tanzania was the main sponsor of the expo, which brought together technology stakeholders, innovators and leaders to explore opportunities and challenges shaping Zanzibar’s digital economy.

Speaking during the closing gala dinner, Mr Soraga thanked Yas for supporting the expo and reaffirmed the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s commitment to promoting innovation, technology and artificial intelligence as drivers of digital economic development.

The minister also presented awards to Hackathon winners and participants in panel discussions held during the expo.

Receiving the certificate, Mr Kiondo said Yas would continue supporting initiatives aimed at expanding the use of technology among individuals and businesses.

“We appreciate this recognition of our contribution to the expo. Yas will continue investing in digital infrastructure and services in Zanzibar to help people and businesses use technology in their daily activities,” he said.

Mr Kiondo added that collaboration between the Government, private sector and innovators was important in advancing Zanzibar’s digital development.

“We believe cooperation between the Government, the private sector and innovators is essential to advancing Zanzibar’s development,” he said.
