Geopolitical crisis in the Middle East hurts Tanzania as its fuel prices hit heights

DAR ES SALAAM: FUEL prices soared across Tanzania, with petrol and diesel in Dar es Salaam increasing to 4,057/- and 4,086/- per litre respectively, effective from today, October 7, 2026 due to the ongoing geopolitical crisis in the Middle East.
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) said the new Dar es Salaam petrol price represents an increase of 261/- per litre, while diesel soared by 209/-.

In Tanga, petrol now costs 4,123/- per litre, up from 3,872/- in September, while diesel has increased to 4,172/- from 3,953/-. At Mtwara Port, petrol has risen to 4,170/- from 3,909/-, while diesel now costs 4,199/- compared to 3,990/- last month.
Kerosene prices have also increased, with a litre now selling at 4,067/- in Dar es Salaam, 4,133/- in Tanga and 4,180/- in Mtwara, compared to 3,713/-, 3,789/- and 3,825/- respectively in September.
EWURA attributed the increases to renewed political tensions in the Middle East, where Tanzania sources a large share of its petroleum products.
