Election officials urged to uphold professionalism

TABORA: ELECTION officials have been urged to carry out their duties with efficiency, professionalism and commitment as preparations continue for the forthcoming by-election in Chamwino Constituency and council elections in 11 wards on November 4, 2026.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Member, Dr Zakia Abubakar made the call yesterday in Tabora while closing a three-day training programme for election officials that began on September 26, 2026.

Dr Zakia urged the officials to ensure that all electoral activities were conducted in accordance with the Constitution, electoral laws, regulations, ethics and directives issued by the Commission.

“Efficiency in the electoral process also depends on appointing and recruiting polling station officials based on merit and competence,” she said.

Dr Zakia urged the participants to put into practice issues discussed during the training and carry out their responsibilities professionally while observing electoral laws, regulations, procedures and the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The training was part of preparations for the November 4 by-election in Chamwino Constituency and council elections in 11 wards on Mainland Tanzania.

The training brought together regional election coordinators, returning officers, assistant returning officers at constituency level, ward election supervisors, election officers, procurement officers and accountants.
