Ngome seal Armed Forces Games top title for the 3rd time in a row

MWANZA: THE 2026 Tanzania Armed Forces Sports Council (BAMMATA) games concluded today in Mwanza, with the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) ‘Ngome’ (Barracks) Zone emerging as the overall winner for the third consecutive time.

The tournament, held over two weeks from September 21 to  today, October 4, 2026, aimed to strengthen unity, solidarity, camaraderie, and mutual understanding among defense and security agencies, as well as to promote discipline and physical fitness through sports.

 A total of seven zones participated in the games, which featured football, basketball, netball, volleyball, handball, darts, athletics, and marksmanship. The participating zones were Ngome, Prisons, Police, Fire and Rescue, the National Service (JKT), Immigration, and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ) Special Forces.

The Ngome Unit clinched the overall championship title after securing approximately 12 trophies. The zone performed exceptionally well in marksmanship, basketball, athletics, handball, and darts, while also finishing third in men’s football and second in both men’s and women’s volleyball.  JKT finished in second place with 12 trophies, while Magereza took third place with 10 trophies. Zimamoto na Uokoaji won the award for best participation, while Uhamiaji received the Fair Play award.

While closing the tournament, Zanzibar’s Minister of Information, Arts, Culture, and Sports, Dr Riziki Pembe Juma, said that the sports ministries from both sides would continue to collaborate with the security forces to develop and promote sports in the country.

Dr Riziki congratulated the winners and urged those who did not win to work harder in order to perform better in future competitions. She noted that the tournament demonstrated the discipline, unity, and solidarity existing among the defense and security agencies, while also providing an opportunity to discover new talent.

For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), Lieutenant General Salum Haji Othman speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Jacob Mkunda—thanked the sports ministry for its cooperation in promoting sports within the armed forces.

He said that BAMMATA has become a vital platform for strengthening relationships, cooperation, and solidarity among the defense and security agencies.  BAMMATA Chairman Major General Said Hamis Said stated that the tournament was successfully concluded without any disciplinary issues, emphasizing that its conclusion marks the beginning of preparations for future competitions.

Meanwhile, Mwanza Regional Commissioner CP Salum Hamduni noted that the tournament fostered entertainment and solidarity while boosting the circulation of money, in addition to helping promote Mwanza both nationally and internationally.
