OSHA orders valuers of assets belonging to TSF victims in Mara to adhere to safety protocols

TARIME: EXPERTS conducting the valuation of assets belonging to residents slated for relocation to make way for the construction of a new Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at the North Mara Gold Mine have been instructed to adhere to safety protocols at all times while carrying out their duties.

This directive was issued today by Senior Occupational Health and Safety Officer Mr Francisco Ntemi while addressing the valuers and other professionals participating in the exercise in Matongo Village, Tarime District.

Mr Ntemi stated that the experts must identify hazards present in their work areas, assess potential risks, and take appropriate measures to control them before commencing or continuing work.

He emphasized that safety compliance should be integral to every stage of their operations, urging the experts to avoid complacency and instead remain vigilant regarding their surroundings.

Furthermore, he instructed them to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever required and to immediately report any conditions or actions that could compromise their safety or that of others in the workplace.

“Whenever you are at the work site, ensure you identify existing hazards, assess potential risks, and take appropriate measures to control those risks before proceeding with work. Safety must be part of every step you take,” said Ntemi.

For her part, North Mara mine Acting Relations Manager Ms Nasieku Kisambu urged the experts participating in the exercise to remain vigilant regarding safety while carrying out their duties in the project areas.

Meanwhile, Senior Valuer Mr Baraka Mollel, from the Office of the Chief Government Valuer, called upon the experts to immediately report any conditions or actions that could compromise safety.

Mr Mollel also emphasized the importance of adhering to the laws, procedures, and guidelines governing the execution of their duties during the exercise.

The valuation exercise is currently underway in Matongo and Nyangoto villages, Tarime District; it aims to identify and value the assets of residents slated for relocation to make way for the construction of a new tailings storage facility at the North Mara Gold Mine.
