Dr Mwinyi swears in Othman Masoud Othman as Zanzibar’s First Vice President

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has today, September 22, 2026, sworn in Othman Masoud Othman as the First Vice President of Zanzibar at a ceremony held at State House in Zanzibar.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mwinyi said the reconciliation reached between the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and ACT Wazalendo marked the beginning of a new phase aimed at strengthening peace, unity and stability in Zanzibar.

He said the focus should now shift towards accelerating development and addressing challenges facing citizens.

President Mwinyi said the swearing-in of Othman Masoud Othman was an important step in implementing the agreement reached between CCM and ACT Wazalendo following a joint declaration signed on July 9, 2026, at State House in Zanzibar.

He stressed that reconciliation was not the end of the process but the beginning of further work, calling on leaders and citizens to maintain cooperation and focus their efforts on economic growth, expanding employment and opportunities for young people, empowering women, strengthening tourism, developing the Blue Economy and attracting investment.

Othman Masoud Othman, the newly sworn-in First Vice President of Zanzibar, thanked President Mwinyi for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledged to discharge his duties faithfully while prioritising the interests of Zanzibar and its people.
