NECTA’s revised education framework ends the Standard 7 system

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has announced that pupils currently in Standard Five and Standard Six will complete primary education in 2027 under changes being implemented in line with the country’s revised education framework.

According to a statement issued by NECTA, the changes are being implemented in accordance with the Education and Training Policy of 2014, 2023 edition, and the revised curricula.

The statement said pupils currently in Standard Six will sit for the Primary School Leaving Examination in 2027 when they reach Standard Seven.

However, pupils currently in Standard Five will sit for the final primary education examination in 2027 while in Standard Six.

This will make the current Standard Five cohort the first group of pupils in Tanzania to complete primary education after reaching Standard Six, marking a change from the previous structure under which pupils completed primary education in Standard Seven.
