Tanzanian traders urged to tap EAC, SADC and AfCFTA markets

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Dennis Londo, has urged Tanzanian traders to take advantage of regional markets, including the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), to expand sales of their products.

Londo made the remarks while closing the award ceremony of the fourth Business and Investment Forum, which brought together chief executive officers and directors from 200 companies to discuss opportunities associated with doing business beyond Tanzania’s borders.

He said the forum provides an important platform for company directors and business leaders to exchange experiences and explore available opportunities in regional and international markets.

Londo noted that Tanzania is a member of both the EAC and SADC and is also moving towards greater participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area, making adequate preparations essential for Tanzanian businesses to participate effectively and benefit from these markets.

He said the Ministry of Industry and Trade would continue creating a conducive business environment and working closely with the private sector to expand opportunities for traders and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The Deputy Minister encouraged businesses to strengthen their capacity, improve the quality and competitiveness of locally produced goods and position themselves to take advantage of expanding trade opportunities across Africa.
