Nigeria’s Sultan Abubakar condolences President Samia over husband’s death

ABUJA: THE Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has expressed his condolences to the President of Tanzania, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, following the demise of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Hafidh Ameir Hassan, Tanzania’s First Gentleman, reportedly died on Monday, September 7, 2026, while receiving medical treatment at the Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

The Sultan’s condolence followed the announcement of his death by Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, who disclosed that the former First Gentleman passed away at about 8:00 a.m. local time (6:00 a.m. GMT).

In a condolence message, signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of his media team, Sultan Abubakar, who also serves as Co-President of the World’s Religions for Peace, headquartered in New York, described the death as an act of God and prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon the deceased.

The Sultan said Hafidh Ameir Hassan lived a good life and was a supportive husband to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whom he described as an exceptional leader of Tanzania.

“Our brother, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, lived a good life as a husband and good supporter of his wife, who has been an exceptional leader of Tanzania. We pray, as his fellow African brothers, that God will grant him eternal rest,” he said.

The Sultan also prayed that Allah would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and admit his soul into Al-Jannatul Firdaus, while granting President Samia Suluhu Hassan, her family and the people of Tanzania the strength to bear the loss.
