Mafinga launches trader licence campaign

MAFINGA: MAFINGA Town Council has launched a town-wide campaign to educate traders on business licensing requirements as part of efforts to improve compliance with the law and reduce penalties for operating without valid licences.

The exercise, led by the council’s Trade Department, has started in Bumilayinga Ward, covering the Ulole, Matanana, Mtula, Ihefu, Kisada, Mkanzaule and Ibikititu streets.

The seminars are aimed at helping traders understand the legal requirements for obtaining business licences and the consequences of operating without valid permits.

Acting Head of the Trade Department, Ms Irene Tira urged traders to follow the procedures for acquiring licences and seek assistance from trade officers whenever they need licensing or business-related services.

“Do not hesitate to contact trade officers whenever you need services related to licences and business operations,” Ms Tira said.

Speaking during the seminar, trader Israel Lalika from Ulole welcomed the initiative, saying it had helped participants understand the licensing process and the laws governing business operations.

“The training has given us a better understanding of how to obtain licences and will help us avoid violating the laws,” Mr Lalika said.

Ulole Street Chairperson, Mr Augustino Nenula also called on traders to put the lessons into practice to avoid offences that could lead to fines and other legal action.

“Traders should comply with the licensing procedures and the laws guiding business operations to avoid penalties,” Mr Nenula said.

The council said the awareness campaign will continue in all wards across Mafinga, warning that delays in obtaining business licences could result in fines, closure of businesses or prosecution.
