Qatar tables interest to invest in Tanzania’s port, announces joint task force for the mission
DAR ES SALAAM: QATAR has expressed interest in investing in Tanzania’s port infrastructure, with the two countries moving to establish a joint task force to explore strategic projects aimed at expanding port capacity and strengthening Tanzania’s position in regional trade.
The interest was expressed by former Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah during talks with Tanzania’s Minister for Transport Prof Makame Mbarawa, who presented investment opportunities available in the development of the country’s ports.
During the meeting, Prof Mbarawa said Tanzania’s strategic location, surrounded by major water bodies, gives it significant potential to facilitate trade with neighbouring countries and makes the country an attractive investment destination for Qatar.
Additionally, he invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities available across Tanzania’s ports, noting that investment in the sector would help increase capacity and enhance the country’s competitiveness in regional trade.
Dr Al Attiyah expressed interest in investing in the sector and proposed that Tanzania and Qatar collaborate on implementing a strategic transport project through the country’s ports.
The two sides agreed to establish a joint task force bringing together experts from both countries to undertake detailed preliminary discussions and exchange information needed to facilitate the development of the proposed investment opportunities.
