Singida targets 80 per cent TB detection this year

SINGIDA: SINGIDA Regional Medical Officer, Dr Jesca Lebba has called on health stakeholders to strengthen the detection, treatment and follow-up of tuberculosis (TB) and leprosy patients to help the region achieve its target of reaching 80 per cent of affected people.

Speaking on Monday while opening the Mid-Year Tuberculosis and Leprosy Data Review Meeting in Singida, Dr Lebba said every health worker and partner should contribute to improving services and ensuring patients receive timely care.

“Each one of us must be part of the solution,” she said.

Dr Lebba urged health workers to intensify community screening for TB and leprosy and ensure those diagnosed begin treatment without delay.

She also stressed the need for accurate and high-quality data, saying reliable information is essential for tracking progress and improving disease control efforts.

The Regional Medical Officer called on health facilities to strengthen screening for patients visiting clinics so that those with symptoms are identified early and started on treatment promptly.

She said close follow-up of patients undergoing treatment was equally important to help them complete medication and reduce the risk of new infections.

The meeting reviewed the region’s half-year performance on TB and leprosy indicators, assessed implementation challenges and outlined strategies for improving service delivery.

Dr Lebba also encouraged health professionals to work closely with development partners and effectively implement agreed action plans to improve disease detection, treatment and patient followup across the region.
