Tanzania explores ways of bolstering its labour market in Saudi Arabia, Gulf states

DODOMA: TANZANIAN Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Zena Ahmed Said, has met with stakeholders in the employment sector to explore ways of increasing job opportunities for Tanzanians, improving working conditions and strengthening their competitiveness in the Saudi Arabian and wider Middle Eastern labour markets.

During the meeting, stakeholders discussed challenges facing private employment agencies in the process of registering Tanzanians who secure jobs in Saudi Arabia, as well as challenges encountered by Tanzanian workers while employed in the country.

The Chairperson of the Tanzania Recruitment Agencies Association (TRAA), Abdallah Mohammed, commended the government for its efforts to open up more employment opportunities for Tanzanians abroad. He said continued government engagement and regular dialogue with countries that employ Tanzanian workers are essential to improving working conditions and protecting the interests of Tanzanians working overseas.

The Middle East remains one of the key overseas employment markets for Tanzanians, underscoring the need for closer cooperation among the government, employers, private recruitment agencies and other stakeholders. Such collaboration is expected to expand employment opportunities, strengthen worker protection and enhance the competitiveness of Tanzanians in the global labour market.
