Tanzania sees expansion of 36.3bn/- Musoma Airport reach 70 per cent completion

MUSOMA: THE Tanzania government has reached 70 per cent completion of the rehabilitation and expansion project at Musoma Airport in Mara Region, valued at 36.3bn/-, with construction now said to be in its final stages.

The update was provided by Deputy Minister for Transport David Kihenzile, who said some key airport infrastructure, including the runway, aircraft parking apron and associated taxiways, has been completed 100 per cent.

Speaking during an inspection tour to assess the progress of the project, Kihenzile said completion of the airport would improve air transport services in Mara Region and stimulate economic activities, tourism and trade in the region and surrounding areas.

He said the government, through Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), plans to commence air services to Musoma Airport from September this year.

“We want to ensure that residents of Mara and neighbouring areas have access to reliable and quality air transport services,” he said.

According to Kihenzile, the launch of air services at the airport will create additional economic opportunities and facilitate the movement of people and goods, while strengthening tourism and trade activities.

He said the government would continue to closely monitor implementation of the project to ensure that the remaining works are completed on time and in accordance with the required standards.

He added that completion of the project is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen air transport infrastructure and expand access to transport services across the country.

The government said it aims to ensure that Musoma Airport begins serving the public once all remaining works have been completed.
