Iringa hospital becomes learning hub for peers
IRINGA: IRINGA Regional Referral Hospital has become a learning hub for regional hospitals across the country after its second-place national ranking prompted health facilities to study the management systems behind its success.
The latest team to visit the hospital was from Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital (RRH), whose staff toured various departments and units to learn operational practices aimed at improving productivity and health service delivery.
The hospital earned the recognition after finishing second among the country’s 28 Regional Referral Hospitals in the 2026 Performance Assessment and Health Service Delivery Evaluation conducted by experts from the Ministry of Health, who cited its efficiency, quality of service and sound resource management.
The learning visits are part of a Ministry of Health initiative that encourages regional referral hospitals to adopt proven management practices by learning directly from high-performing facilities.
Speaking after the visit, head of the Bukoba delegation and specialist doctor Dr Renatus Francis said the exchange had provided practical lessons that would help improve services at his hospital.
“This visit has been a major success for our side because it has given us a new perspective to see various strategic areas that we can emulate and use to improve our work performance systems back home,” Dr Francis said.
He said the experience gained would help bring lasting improvements in healthcare delivery. “We sincerely thank the leadership and all staff of the Iringa Regional Referral Hospital for the warm reception, hospitality and immense cooperation shown throughout our visit.”
Acting Medical Officer in-Charge of Iringa Regional Referral Hospital Dr Pamela Mosha said the visit had also created an opportunity for staff from both hospitals to exchange professional experience.

“We sincerely thank our fellow staff from Bukoba RRH for choosing Iringa RRH to be their centre for learning and exchanging professional experience.” She said such exchanges help strengthen service delivery by encouraging hospitals to adopt better operational practices.
“Exchanging experiences of this kind is a fundamental matter in generating new operational methods, eliminating routine habits at work and ultimately strengthening the overall quality of services provided to citizens.”
The ministry said the nationwide knowledge-sharing initiative is designed to strengthen cooperation among regional referral hospitals and encourage institutions to learn directly from high-performing facilities.
Under the initiative, Iringa has already hosted teams from Singida, Bukoba and Ligula Regional Referral Hospitals, while its own staff have undertaken a learning visit to Amana Regional Referral Hospital.
