Tanzania joins WADA in a fight against the use of illicit drugs in sports

DODOMA: THE Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, has met with the Director of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Africa, Rodney Swigilaar, to discuss measures to strengthen the fight against the use of banned substances and illegal practices in sports.
During the meeting, the two officials also discussed Tanzania’s role and responsibilities on the WADA Board following the country’s appointment as a member of the Board.
The appointment gives Tanzania an opportunity to participate in international discussions and decision-making processes aimed at strengthening the integrity of sports and ensuring athletes compete in safe, fair and internationally compliant environments.

In a separate meeting, Mwinjuma held talks with the leadership of the Tanzania Military Sports Council (BAMMATA), where they discussed various issues concerning the development of military sports in the country.
The meeting also focused on BAMMATA’s role in identifying, nurturing and developing sporting talent among athletes from Tanzania’s defence and security institutions.
The meetings were held at the Ministry’s offices in the Government City of Mtumba, Dodoma, with discussions focusing on strengthening cooperation in sports development and harnessing the sporting potential of athletes from defence and security institutions.
