Zanzibar’s New Amaan Complex temporarily closed to allow pitch renovations for 2027 AFCON

ZANZIBAR: NEW Amaan Complex Stadium in Zanzibar has been temporarily closed to allow for pitch renovations as part of the island’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Zanzibar Sports Department Commissioner Ameir Mohammed Makame said the pitch renovation is expected to take approximately two months, after which the grass will undergo cutting and maintenance in preparation for use during the tournament.

He said the existing grass has been in use for about two years and will therefore be removed and replaced with new grass seed.

New Amaan Complex is among five grounds expected to serve as training venues during AFCON 2027.
