Dr Mwinyi directs new Tanzanian envoy to Malaysia to deepen economic diplomacy, lure Malaysian tourists

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT of Zanzibar, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has directed Tanzania’s newly appointed Ambassador to Malaysia, Major General Mbaraka Naziad Mkeremy, to strengthen economic diplomacy by identifying investment opportunities, promoting trade and increasing the number of Malaysian tourists visiting Zanzibar.
Dr Mwinyi issued the directive today, August 17, 2026, when he met Ambassador Mkeremy at State House in Zanzibar. The ambassador had paid a farewell visit to the President and received guidance ahead of taking up his new diplomatic assignment in Malaysia.
President Mwinyi stressed the importance of using opportunities available in Malaysia to promote Zanzibar as an attractive investment destination, particularly in tourism, hotels and accommodation, fisheries, oil and gas, as well as other areas of the Blue Economy.
He said stronger economic diplomacy should go hand in hand with efforts to identify new markets for Zanzibar’s products and services, while also creating stronger links between businesses and investors from the two countries.
