Mainland Premier League gets underway

MWANZA: THE 2026/27 Mainland Premier League season gets under way today with three matches in Mwanza, Mbeya and Singida, as teams begin their campaign for early points.
Pamba Jiji and Dodoma Jiji will open at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza at 2 pm and are among three league fixtures scheduled for the opening day.
Mbeya City face Geita Gold at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya at 4.15 pm, before Singida Black Stars meet Fountain Gate at Airtel Stadium in Singida at 7 pm. Pamba Jiji coach Francis Baraza (pictured) expects a demanding start but believes his young squad can deliver a positive result.

Speaking at a press conference in Mwanza yesterday, Baraza said he was satisfied with the squad he had assembled and was confident the players would compete for victory.
“So far, I am satisfied with the team I have formed. The youth will fight to achieve results,” he said.
Dodoma Jiji coach Vincent Mashimi said his side were also ready for the challenge and intended to make a strong start to the season. Pamba Jiji captain Zabona Khamis said the team had prepared well and urged supporters and football fans across Mwanza to turn out in large numbers for the match.
The fixture is the first of a demanding run for Pamba Jiji, who will face some of the league’s biggest clubs in their next matches.
They host Simba on August 19th at CCM Kirumba Stadium before travelling to face Azam at Chamazi Stadium on August 23rd. Pamba Jiji then face Yanga at KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 28th, followed by a match against JKT Tanzania at Meja Isamuhyo Stadium on September 5th.
