High Court reminds lawyers to comply with directives issued by TLS when communicating with media

DAR ES SALAAM: THE High Court of Tanzania has reminded lawyers appearing before the courts to comply with directives issued by the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) and the Judiciary regarding communication with the media.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Registrar of the High Court, lawyers have been urged to refrain from conducting interviews with media outlets within court premises during or after court proceedings have been adjourned.

The High Court has also urged lawyers to avoid making statements about ongoing cases that could potentially affect the proceedings.

According to the statement, lawyers’ communication regarding matters before the courts must comply with the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, laws, regulations, procedures and directives issued by the Judiciary of Tanzania.

The court said the measures are important to ensure that the administration of justice continues effectively without compromising court proceedings or undermining the dignity of the institution.

The High Court further stressed that the directives are intended to ensure that the administration of justice is conducted in an orderly manner, while the authority, independence and procedures of the courts are respected by all stakeholders in the justice system.
