Connectivity, tech investments earn Yas two TEHAMA awards

DAR ES SALAAM: Yas has won two awards at the TEHAMA Awards 2026, strengthening its position in Tanzania’s telecommunications market as demand for reliable digital connectivity and technology-enabled services continues to grow.

The company was named Best National Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the second consecutive year, while also receiving the ICT for Environmental Conservation award for its use of technology to support environmental sustainability.

The awards were presented on August 9 at Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam during a ceremony attended by stakeholders from the information and communications technology and digital financial services sectors. Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki, was the guest of honour.

Yas Business Chief Officer Norman Kiondo said the recognition reflected the company’s continued investment in infrastructure and technology to expand connectivity and support wider participation in the digital economy.

“Internet connectivity has become an important part of our day-to-day activities. People rely on it to do business, work, learn, access services and stay connected,” Kiondo said.

He said Yas would continue building a quality network to connect more Tanzanians and expand access to digital opportunities.

Kiondo said the second consecutive Best National ISP award highlighted the growing importance of dependable internet services as consumers, businesses and institutions increasingly rely on digital platforms.

The company’s recognition for ICT for Environmental Conservation also signals a broader role for technology beyond connectivity, with digital tools increasingly being used to support environmental protection and sustainable development.

Kiondo said the award would encourage Yas to explore further opportunities for applying technology to environmental conservation while supporting Tanzania’s sustainability objectives.

Yas said its long-term strategy is to remain a digital ally to Tanzanians by expanding connectivity and helping individuals and businesses make greater use of technology.

The TEHAMA Awards are organised by the Information and Communication Technologies Commission in collaboration with industry stakeholders to recognise companies, institutions and individuals contributing to innovation, technology adoption and the development of Tanzania’s ICT sector.

The latest recognition adds to Yas’ growing profile in Tanzania’s digital economy, where competition among telecommunications providers is increasingly centred on network quality, service reliability and the ability to support broader digital transformation.
