Tanzania, CHAI launch a joint monitoring, onsite mentorship programme for critically ill patients, newborns

RUVUMA: THE Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has launched a joint monitoring and onsite mentorship programme in key emergency care units, aimed at improving the quality of services for critically ill patients, including newborns.

The exercise, which began on August 10, 2026, at Madaba District Council Hospital in Ruvuma Region, seeks to strengthen the capacity of health professionals in providing care to patients requiring specialised attention and timely medical interventions.

According to the Ministry of Health, the monitoring exercise will run for five days, from August 10 to 14, 2026, across 10 health facilities: Kondoa DH, Meru DH, Tunduru DH, Bwisya DH, Mbarali DH, Mvomero DH, Mafia DH, Mkomaindo DH, Mbulu TC and Madaba DH.

The exercise brings together health professionals from the Ministry of Health and regional hospitals in Ruvuma, Mbeya, Mtwara, Dodoma, Pwani, Mwanza, Manyara, Arusha and Morogoro, with the aim of sharing expertise and strengthening the skills required to deliver effective emergency care.

The Ministry said the monitoring and mentorship programme forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the performance of health professionals and improve the delivery of quality healthcare services to the public, particularly critically ill patients and newborns who require timely, safe and quality care.
