EFTA refunds 100m/- in interest to 37 Tanzanian farmers at the Nane Nane Exhibition

ARUSHA: THIRTY SEVEN farmers from across Tanzania have received 100m/- in interest rebates under the Equity for Tanzania Limited (EFTA) Interest Rebate Programme, after repaying their loans on time.

Of the total amount,43m/- was refunded to 15 farmers in 2025, while 53m/- was awarded to 22 farmers in 2026, representing a 50 percent refund of the interest they had paid.

The dummy cheque presentation was held at the EFTA pavilion during the Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Arusha. Beneficiaries said EFTA financing had enabled them to acquire tractors, power tillers and crop-processing machinery, boosting productivity, reducing production costs and creating more than 300 jobs in different parts of the country.

EFTA Chief Executive Officer, Nicomed Bohay, said the programme is designed to promote financial discipline among farmers. He noted that the institution has maintained a Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio of just one percent, attributing the achievement to customers’ commitment to timely loan repayment

EFTA said it will continue supporting farmers with financing to acquire modern agricultural machinery and equipment, aiming to improve productivity, strengthen the competitiveness of Tanzania’s agricultural sector and expand access to financing for more farmers.
