TANECU, KACU envision efficiency in acquisition of 15 heavy duty trucks

DODOMA: COOPERATIVE unions; TANECU and KACU, are expected to improve the efficiency of collecting and transporting agricultural produce following the acquisition of 15 trucks aimed at addressing transport challenges, strengthening cooperative business operations and increasing farmers’ incomes.

The trucks are expected to enhance the timely movement of produce from collection centres to markets, while improving the operational capacity of the two cooperative unions.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at the 2026 Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, NBC Head of Small and Medium Enterprises and Agribusiness, Raymond Urassa, said the bank continues to prioritise investment in the agricultural sector by providing financial solutions that enable farmers and cooperative societies to increase productivity and add value to their produce.

He said supporting cooperatives with productive assets is part of NBC’s broader strategy to strengthen agricultural value chains and improve access to markets for farmers across the country.

Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Dr Benson Ndiege, said the trucks will strengthen the capacity of cooperative unions to transport crops efficiently and on time, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of their businesses.

He commended NBC for its continued collaboration with the cooperative sector, describing the partnership as an important step towards empowering farmers and improving the performance of agricultural cooperatives.

Leaders of TANECU and KACU said the trucks will improve the collection of produce, distribution of agricultural inputs and delivery of other commercial services. They expressed confidence that the investment will benefit cooperative members, enhance service delivery and increase the contribution of cooperative societies to the growth of Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
