Entrepreneurship can create jobs, boost economy – Aslay Mihogo

DAR ES SALAAM: Entrepreneur Aslay Mihogo has called on the government to continue improving the business environment by simplifying business registration procedures and licensing processes, saying the move will enable more entrepreneurs, particularly young people, to establish and expand their businesses.
Mihogo said a favourable business environment is crucial in promoting entrepreneurship, increasing self-employment opportunities and enabling young people to contribute more effectively to economic growth.
Speaking on the contribution of entrepreneurship to national development, he said access to affordable capital remains one of the major challenges facing many entrepreneurs, urging continued efforts to improve availability of low-interest loans for young business owners.
He said although various initiatives have been introduced to support entrepreneurs, there is still a need to strengthen access to finance, reduce business operational challenges and improve market opportunities for small and emerging enterprises.
“I advise the government to continue improving the business environment by simplifying business registration and licensing procedures, increasing access to affordable loans for young people, and strengthening entrepreneurship and innovation training,” Mihogo said.
He added that such interventions would encourage more young people to embrace entrepreneurship as a means of creating employment opportunities for themselves and others.
According to Mihogo, many young Tanzanians have creative business ideas but lack the necessary capital, skills and mentorship required to transform their ideas into successful and sustainable businesses.
He stressed the importance of strengthening entrepreneurship training programmes, saying young entrepreneurs need knowledge in areas such as financial management, digital marketing, technology adoption and business planning.
Mihogo further noted that technological advancement has opened new opportunities for businesses, allowing entrepreneurs to use digital platforms to promote their products, access customers and expand their markets.
He said entrepreneurship plays a significant role in economic development by increasing production, improving citizens’ incomes and contributing to government revenue through taxation.
The entrepreneur said successful businesses often expand and create employment opportunities, helping to address unemployment challenges, especially among the youth.
He encouraged young people to remain committed despite challenges, noting that success in business requires patience, discipline, continuous learning and the ability to identify and utilise available opportunities.
Mihogo called for stronger cooperation between the government, private sector, financial institutions and development partners to create a business ecosystem that enables more young people to start and grow enterprises.
He concluded that continued investment in entrepreneurship support would increase youth participation in economic activities, promote innovation and strengthen the role of small businesses in Tanzania’s economic development.
